People live in small huts made of mud where they lack running water. They walk daily to local wells for water and walk long distances to secure basic necessities because of a lack of transportation. People work for daily wages to provide for their needs. Children are able to receive free education in local village schools, however, these schools suffer from overcrowding and often have one teacher for many grades. Parents are often unable to afford school tuition and supplies that would allow their kids to attend better schools.

Nagpur:

The Nagpur District is the 29th most populated district in India out of 640 districts. It is home to over 4.4 million people. 36% of the population lives outside major cities in small villages. Where we serve, people live in slums in industrial areas in small huts made of scraps of tin where they lack necessities such as running water.

People work for daily wages either as laborers or by going house to house to collect fallen hair which they then sell to makers of wigs to provide for the needs of their families. Little value is placed on education among these communities.

Chhindwara:

The Chhindwara District is home to over two million people including India's two largest tribal groups who live in very remote areas. People live in small huts made of mud where they lack necessities such as running water. They walk to rivers to secure drinking water. They travel 30 km to the nearest town to secure basic necessities. People make a living by farming.

District residents living in the city of Chhindwara work for daily wages and children often have to work with their parents. Child marriages happen here. Children are able to receive free education in local village schools, however, these schools suffer from overcrowding and often have one teacher for many grades. Parents are often unable to afford school tuition and supplies that would allow their kids to attend better schools.

Chopda:

In the tribal areas of Chopda where we serve, the villages are so remote that people have no modern conveniences such as electricity, postal services, or proper transportation. People live in small huts made of mud where they lack running water. They walk to rivers to secure drinking water. They travel 30 km to the nearest town to secure basic necessities. People make a living by farming. Residents living in the urban areas work for daily wages and children often have to work with their parents to help provide income.

Latur:

The Latur District is home to over two million people. The area is mainly agricultural with only 25% of the population living in cities. The majority of people live in small villages or towns. People along with extended family members live in small huts made of mud where they lack necessities such as running water. They walk daily to local wells for water. They also walk long distances to secure basic necessities because of a lack of transportation. People work for daily wages to provide for the needs of their families.
